Subaru's ever-popular Forester compact crossover receives a significant update for its sixth generation, which debuts as an early 2025 model. The Forester gets all-new styling, optional foot-activated power tailgate, and standard on all trims Eyesight safety systems, but retains the size and practicality that buyers love. While prices have inched higher over the years, buyers undoubtedly also love that the Forester remains competitively priced and continues to deliver good value. Our test car, in Premium trim, had a $34,590 MSRP, including its $1,395 destination fee. Built on an updated version of Subaru’s Global Platform, it retains the company’s familiar 2.5L flat four-cylinder engine, albeit with a bit more horsepower and torque.
Hits:
- More refined that the previous generation with a quieter cabin and more solid feel on the road.
- Excellent driver sightlines with lots of glass, non-invasive pillars, and a high seating position.
- All-wheel drive is standard, and fuel economy is excellent with EPA ratings of 25/32/28 city/highway/combined mpg.
Misses:
- Manual shade for the large panoramic sunroof is a stretch to close/open fully.
- Could use more analog controls, especially since 11.6-inch Starlink Multimedia display is sluggish. Some simple tasks, such as activating the heated seats, require multiple touches.
