It’s hard not
to admire – maybe even be awed – by Hyundai in a world in which sedans
and coupes seem to be endangered species. Hyundai Motors not only hasn’t
abandoned such vehicles, but keeps rolling out wonderful examples of
them. Take our Hyundai Elantra N Line, for example. A stunningly sleek
and surprisingly sporty yet utilitarian compact sedan, it’s also fun to
drive. Its 1.6-liter turbo engine delivers enough power to induce
wheelspin: 201 hp and 195 ft-lb of torque. A 7-speed dual-clutch tranny
with responsive paddle shifters adds to the fun. Oh, we almost forgot:
It also gets a legit 35 highway/31 combined MPG.
Hit or Miss:
- Depending on personal taste, you could call test car’s Exotic Green paint stunning or a good impersonation of a Clink bag.
Hits:
- Delivered price of $29,825 seems like a steal for such a sporty and well-equipped car that does many things well.
- Noticeably more power (54 more horses, 63 more lb.-ft. of torque) than the three other ICE-powered Elantra models.
- Styling changes for 2024 include a new front facia, lights, and wheels. They make the Elantra look more dynamic.
Misses:
- Looks and sounds quicker than it is. Zero-60 takes around 7.1 seconds.
- Dual-clutch shifts are slightly obtrusive.
- Stops quickly enough, but firmer brake feel would be welcome.
