Redesigned for 2024, the Subaru
Crosstrek is now in its third generation with a new off-road oriented
Wilderness trim being offered on Subaru's smallest crossover. The
Wilderness trim receives a 0.6 inch suspension lift, unique exterior
visual flair and water-repellent upholstery. Our vehicle came with an
as-tested price of $33,540 including destination, but excludes the
$2,270 optional package that includes a power drivers seat, moonroof,
and Harmon Kardon audio system. Other standard equipment includes
hexagonal style LED fog lights, heated front seats, wireless phone
charger, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert. The
2.5L flat four engine producing 182HP and 178lb-ft of torque, is
shared with other trims, the Sport and Limited.
Hits:
- Not
a huge price jump for the Wilderness that has significant off-road
upgrades over the other Crosstrek trim levels.
- Impressive
9.3 inch ground clearance that provides off-road usability compared
to competitors like the Jeep Compass Trailhawk (8.6”) and Ford
Bronco Sport (8.8”).
- Interior refinement has vastly
improved with larger tires and better sound deadening to make it good
choice for long drives.
Misses:
- Added weight of the
Wilderness trim's extras zaps Subaru's 2.5L flat four engine's power
paired with the CVT.
- 11.6” infotainment screen lacks the
responsiveness compared to modern competitors and a lot of functions
are hidden under menus, which cannot be changed on the fly.
-
Wilderness exterior copper color accents will not be for everyone's
taste, especially when combined with certain exterior colors like our
Lithium Red Pearl.
