For
2024, the Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD underwent a styling refresh as
well as a new off-road oriented ZR2 trim with Multimatic dampers able to
cope with off-road demands increasing suspension travel. Our test
truck came in Sterling Gray Metallic with an as-tested price of $86,850.
That price tag included the $9,945 optional 6.6L turbodiesel V8
delivering 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque. The ZR2 is available
only as a crew cab with a 6.8-foot cargo bed.
Hits:
-
Multitude of cameras assist towing and parking. Not enough? Silverado
makes it simple to add your own auxiliary trailer cameras.
-
Multiflex tailgate is the Swiss Army knife of pickup tailgates with six
different functions. For example, it can become a step, a bed extension,
or an in-bed load stop.
- Duramax engine is refined with little noise or vibration reaching the cabin.
Misses:
- Hard plastic materials inside the cabin feel cheap given the ZR2's nearly $90k sticker price.
-
Traditional rear leaf spring suspension delivers a classic pickup truck
ride – meaning bouncy and stiff – when the cargo box is empty.
-
Hard to believe things like adaptive cruise control, a power sunroof
and rearview camera mirror are options on a near $90k vehicle.
