Now in its second generation, the 2024 BMW X2 has grown in size by seven inches in length and two inches in height. Our test vehicle was the xDrive28i with an as-tested price of $52,745, including its $995 destination fee. The xDrive28i has a 2.0L 4-cyl. engine that delivers 241 horsepower and 295 lbs-ft of torque, good enough to go 0-60 in 6.2 seconds. The M35i performance model delivers the same torque but 71 more horses that help it trim a full second off the 0-60. Both models get a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

Hits:
- Increased overall size equates to noticeably more interior room for both passengers and cargo compared to the first-gen X2, including nearly four cubic feet of cargo capacity.

- Dual-clutch delivers smooth and quick shifts during spirited driving and responsive downshifts for highway merging and passing.

- Upgraded interior materials and better noise isolation than its predecessor.

Misses:
- Steering is nicely weighted but feels numb. X2 sticks well in corners, but lack of road feel diminishes confidence.

- Dual-clutch transmission produces rough start/stops and stumbling while parking.

- iDrive and most switchgear are gone, replaced by an often unintuitive and multi-level touchscreen menu system that controls everything… including the headlights.
